Respiratory infections are more serious for people with asthma, because they
can lead to pneumonia and to asthma attacks. Asthma also makes managing
those infections more complicated.
The practical consequence is simple: **if you have asthma, get vaccinated for
respiratory diseases when vaccines are available and your provider says you
can.**
The four, and what each does

**Flu, COVID-19, RSV and pneumococcal vaccines may each be given at the same
time as other vaccines.** That is worth knowing before booking: this is one
appointment, not four.
Everything else that helps
These steps protect against flu, COVID-19, RSV, pneumonia and other
respiratory diseases:
- Get vaccinated when vaccines are available
- Wash your hands often — soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or an
alcohol-based sanitiser - Keep your hands off your face — eyes, nose and mouth are how germs get
in - Avoid close contact with sick people — including kissing and sharing
cups or utensils with anyone who has cold-like symptoms - Clean and disinfect the surfaces people touch most — toys, doorknobs,
mobile devices
Talk to your provider about any additional vaccines you may need.
