An earthquake happens when two blocks of the earth suddenly slip past each other.
The dangers
Earthquakes strike suddenly and violently, with no warning, at any hour of the day or night.
- In populated areas they can damage property and cause injuries and even deaths.
- On the coast there is the possibility of a tsunami.
- Afterwards, earthquake damage can also lead to floods or fires.
Be prepared
Nothing guarantees safety in an earthquake, but you can take steps to protect yourself. Have a disaster plan: being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety and losses.
After an earthquake
If you go through a disaster, it is normal to feel stressed, and you may need help finding ways to cope.
