Overview

The CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program (EFP) is a two-year fellowship that enhances the quality and impact of public health programs and services. Fellows apply and strengthen evaluation skills while working in their host program to build, expand, and/or improve evaluation activities. The fellowship provides specialized training, resources, and funding for professional development.

CDC wants to make program evaluation standard practice and develop professionals with the skills to do it. Fellows are matched to CDC host programs to work on program evaluation, build evaluation capacity, monitor performance, and help design programs — including those implemented by state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) health departments. This fellowship helps improve public health work by providing necessary resources, tools, and leadership.

Fellows are doctoral or master's degree professionals with backgrounds in evaluation, behavioral and social sciences, public health, and other relevant disciplines.

Milestones

More than 200 fellows have completed the CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program since it began in 2011.

EFP graduates obtain evaluation related jobs in public health, including working at STLT health departments, non-profit organizations, and public health contractors. Graduates have also gone on to get an advanced degree in public health or a related field.
