What it is
Cushing's syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by long-term exposure to too much cortisol, a hormone made by your adrenal gland. It is rare.
Causes
- Medicine: taking synthetic hormone medicine to treat an inflammatory disease.
- Tumors: some produce a hormone that makes the body overproduce cortisol.
Symptoms
- upper body obesity
- thin arms and legs
- severe fatigue and muscle weakness
- high blood pressure
- high blood sugar
- easy bruising
Diagnosis
Lab tests can show whether you have it and find the cause.
Treatment
It depends on why you have too much cortisol:
