The 28th SpaceX commercial resupply mission (CRS) is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida in June. The scientific experiments and technology demonstrations carried by the Dragon spacecraft include studies of plant adaptation to stress, measuring genetic structures called telomeres, satellite projects designed by students in Canada, and more.
What is said in the film
WHY ARE WE SENDING A STUDENT-DESIGNED DNA EXPERIMENT EQUIPMENT TO OBSERVE THUNDERSTORMS AND PLANT SEEDS TO THE SPACE STATION? NEW EXPERIMENTS WILL SOON ARRIVE AT THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION FOR THE BENEFIT OF HUMANITY AND FUTURE MISSIONS TO SPACE HERE’S A LOOK AT WHAT’S ABOARD SPACEX’S 28TH CARGO MISSION FOR NASA Thunderstorm observation equipment could improve understanding of Earth’s climate and weather. A CubeSat will observe space weathering of geological samples and compare to processes on planetary bodies like asteroids. Growing a second generation of plant seeds in space could show whether gene changes transfer to future generations. A student-designed DNA experiment will test a technique to measure telomere length in microgravity.
A CubeSat with a wide-angle camera will observe thawing of Arctic ice and permafrost to monitor Earth's climate. THESE EXPERIMENTS JOIN THE HUNDREDS OF ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS ABOARD THE ORBITING LABORATORY. FOLLOW @ISS_RESEARCH TO LEARN MORE. NASA
