A roadmap for new users, and quick learns for everyone else

Training for the NHSN's Patient Safety Component is built around a
practical constraint: the people who need it are infection preventionists with
a caseload, not students.

So it comes in two shapes.

For someone starting from nothing

The PSC Roadmap — a step-by-step guide for new users.

A new infection preventionist faces the Patient Safety Component Manual, which
is several hundred pages of surveillance definitions, and has no way to tell
which parts apply to their facility's reporting commitments. The roadmap is
the ordered path through it.

For someone who already reports

NHSN Analysis training videos and Quick Learns.

"Quick Learn" is the more useful half of that name. Someone who has been
reporting for two years does not need a course; they need to know how to run
one particular analysis, once, this afternoon. A short video answering a
single question is the right format, and a training programme that only
offered the long version would go unwatched.

And annually

NHSN annual training covers what has changed — which for a surveillance
system with versioned protocols is not optional. A facility running last
year's definitions produces data that looks fine and is not comparable, and
the annual training is where that is prevented.
