Antibiotic stewardship trainings improve knowledge of appropriate antibiotic use and help combat antimicrobial resistance.

CDC's trainings

The following healthcare professionals are eligible to receive no-cost continuing education (CE) for CDC antibiotic stewardship trainings:

• Physicians
• Nurse practitioners
• Physician associates
• Certified health education specialists
• Nurses
• Pharmacists
• Public health practitioners with a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree

CDC recognizes that everyone plays a role in improving antibiotic use.

Content includes:

• Antimicrobial resistance threats in the United States
• Risks and benefits of antibiotic use
• Principles of antibiotic stewardship in various clinical settings
• Epidemiology of antibiotic use in the United States and stewardship principles for treating common infections
• Communication training for clinicians to improve outpatient antibiotic prescribing practices and use

Trainings may be completed individually and taken in any order. Participants may select trainings most relevant to their role, practice setting, and/or learning needs.

Merit-Based Incentive Programs Fulfillment

Completing all trainings fulfills Improvement Activities (IA) Patient Safety and Practice Assessment (PSPA)_23 and PSPA_24 under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Merit-Based Incentive Programs, or MIPS.

Tune in to Safe Healthcare: a CDC webinar series

CDC and clinical partners present Tune in to Safe Healthcare, a webinar series focused on infection prevention and control and best practices to improve patient safety. Webinar topics include antibiotic prescribing in critical access hospitals and other healthcare settings.

Webinars are offered at no cost, and select sessions provide continuing education.
