What is said in the film
You are looking live in kazakhstan where soyuz 1a booster rocket stands ready to launch and resupply supply cargo spacecraft carrying three tons of fun, food and supplies to the multi national 68 crew aboard the international space station. Good morning from michigan control houston in the flight control room bridging you live coverage of the launch of the russian progress 83 cargo spacecraft set tot lift off at 12:50a. m. Central time. 11:15a.
m. Baikonur time. Progress launch is set for two-day 34-orbit journey where it will dock the service module on the aft or the back end of the spaces' russian segment at 2:49a. m. Central time.
3:49a. m. Eastern time. About 1200pounds of dry cargo which includes spare parts and other supplies a total a of 5715pounds or 2. 8 tons of cargo being carried to the international space station.
Earlier this weak, the progress spacecraft was transported to the launchpad from the processing hangar and the railroad car hauled the progress vehicle about a quarter mile away to the launch site 31 where was lifted to the vertical position where they began the process of hooking up pow fuel line and power lines for the final stages that will lead to this morning's launch. Now just 13 minutes until liftoff. The flight or soyuz vehicle will be controlled once it reaches the preliminary orbit by flight controllers the russian mission control center pictured own the screen in the town on the outskirts of moscow. The flight control team has been on council throughout the day monitoring all the prep rations a the launch site in the central asian des effort. Asian desert.
Here in mission control houston the team of flight controllers have been on console this evening working in tandem with the russian flight control team and currently we have seven crewmembers aboard the international space station. From left russian astronaut and japan exploration astronaut koichi wakata and josh cassada and nicole mann and sergey prokopyev and anna kikina. Back in baikonur the temperature is three degrees fahrenheit with sunny skies the 2. 1a booster was fully fueled several hours ago. All the propel ants are being replenished now as we reason the final minutes of the countdown that will lead a launch at 12:15a.
m. Central time. 1:15a. m. Eastern time which will be 11:15a.
m. At the launch site in baikonur. Now 11:00 away from launch and all the prep rations are running smoothly for on-time launch again that is 12:15a. m. Central time.
The launch time for any vehicle to reach the international pis station is selected at the moment the earth's rotation carries the launch site the plane or car corridor which is inclined at 51. 6degrees to earth side of the equate are the way the phase angle and the launch time is calculated to bring the progress the two-day 34-orbit rendezvous which will enter to deliver three ton of cargo to the international space station. Now about ten minutes a way from launch, and flight controllers are still reporting everything is running smoothly for on-time launch today. I gain the launch time of 12:15a. m.
Central time. 11:00are 15:00a. m. Baikonur time. The progress is launching atop the soyuz 1a booster which is a three stage rocket the first stage with the liquid fuel engine and strap on boosters will burn for about 1:57 before the strap on boosters are jettisoned in the first stage separates followed bay minute later by the jettison of the launch and the second stage engine will burn for 2.
5 minutes to continue propelling the progress to the orbit and the second stage separation will occur at the 6:48 followed by the third stage which will burn for a little over four minutes until it is shutdown eight minutes after launch followed just seconds late are boo the progress' separations from the third stage and the initiation of the solar arrays then navigational antennas to deploy. At the third stage separation, progress 83 bill be put into the preliminary orbit to began the orbit journey arriving to the interventional space station on saturday where it will automatically dock the as? Module on the back end of the station's russian segment at 2:49a. m. Central time.
6:49 a. m. Eastern time. The cessna docking port was vacated on monday february6th when the uncrewed russian progress 81 spacecraft undocked from the international space stationing the port for progress 83 to dock. At this time, 260miles statute miles of lib with a, north carve.
The seven crewmembers aboard the station just awoke from the sleep period, but we are wide awake on saturday for docking. He will be inside at control panel and the robotically operated rendezvous system and prepared to operate in joystick unlikely event a problem would occur with automated rendezvous systems. Think countdown will soon move toff the automated phase that will include the purging of nitrogen from the first stage engines the propellant drained that to make shore the first stage has correct amount of propellant for the first two minutes of flight. Booster propellants will follow and the ground propellant feed will be terminated. Now just about 7 minutes a I phrase launch and flight control railroads still recording everything is running smoothly for on-time launch today.
Gan progress will begin the journey though station today arriving to the station saturday where it will automatically check to cessna module on the aft or back end of the russian segment again that docking time 2:40 a. m. Central time. 3:49a. m.
Eastern time. Those are known as delta dv burns or delta velocity burns basically a change in velocity burned in the first auto mated maneuvers that will raise the progress to match of that of the international space station. And now just about six minutes until launch the countdown proceeding on track one progress arrived early saturday morning. Sergey will be inside of the service module at control panel ready to operate a joystick in the in likely event that a problem would occur with automated system. Rendezvous system.
Five minutes until launch the countdown still proceeding on track. Again, we are launching for a launch time of 12:15a. m. Central time. Now only four minutes away from launch we should be hearing baikonur reporting a purge of nitro den for the first stage.
The rocket engines are purged with nitrogen bay removing vapors or fuel and oxidizers. The first stage will be pressurized at the 2:45 mark before launch and the first stage fuel tanks will optimize the pressure of the fuel hoping the structural support of the rocket as it sits on top of the launchpad. Again, you are getting a live look now from launch site 31 at the baikonur cosmodrome in kazakhstan the progress running through final procedures readied to began the two-day journey to deliver three tons of cargo the international space station. About 2:30 before launch, everything still running smoothly. The two structural umbilicals against the side of the 2.
1a booster the first will eject before launch and the second will retract at the 20-second marks the second umbilical's retraction that will initiate the auto sequence start for engine and liftoff. And now coming up on the two-minute mark before launch, again we have 1:32 until launch. Now 1:30 from launch. At this point ground feed has been terminated now coming up on the one minute mark. Now on internal power.
T minus 45 seconds until liftoff. T minus 27 seconds and it has separated from the booster. T minus 20 seconds counting the auto sequence has been initiated. The second umbilical tower separated. And we have liftoff.
Liftoff of progress 83 the next vehicle in the supply chain top the international space station. Good roll program reported from baikonur. First stage performance reported to be nominal. Good vehicle stabilization reported. Good chamber pressure reported on the first stage.
First stage performance reported to be nominal. 1:22 into the flight the soyuz booster is passing through maximum dynamic pressure. The flight is reported to be going by the book. Good structural perimeters report interested the launch engineers in baikonur. 1:45 into the flight and everything reported to be going well.
Standing by now for first stage separation. Good pitch row and rotation nominal reported from baikonur. First stage separation confirmed. The four strap john boosters have completed their job and dropped away. The second stage engine is up and burning and about 2:30 stage performance.
Flight controllers reporting everything operating nominally. The soyuz booster traveling almost 5,000-mile miles per hour and will last 4:48 second mark into flight. All reported to be nominal from the house in baikonur as the approach the three minute mark into flight. Second stage engines reported to be operating nominally. Getting a view now from the soyuz booster.
Again all the vehicle perimeters reportedly nominal. Again the second stage engines are reported to be operating nominally. Coming up on the 4. 5 minute mark nook the flight standing by now for second stage shutdown and second stage separation. Again you are looking live now from the calm thrown soyuz booster.
We have second stage shutdown and separation. The stage engine is up and running. Everything looking good. Now traveling just over 9500miles per hour and 100 miles in altitude at the five minute mark into the flight. Now being propelled by the third stable, the engine will thrust and burn for about four minutes.
All structures reported to be nominal. Good third stage engine performance reported. Coming up on the six-minute mark into flight. Third stage performance continues to be solid. Propelling the progress 83 cargo craft into the preliminary orbit.
Again, you are getting a view from progress with the solar array there at the bottom of the screen. 6:30 into flight. The third stable engines still burning nominally as the progress heads toward the preliminary orbit on the journey to the international space station delivering about three tons of cargo. About two minutes of powered flight remaining. Again you are seeing a view from the progress third stage performance still reported to be going well.
7en . 5 into flight the progress and soyuz now traveling 14,000miles per hour 120 miles in altitude bout one minute power flight remaining. Now at the eight-minute mark into flight since progress lifted off progress traveling 1500 and 125miles in altitude all perimeters still reported to be nominal. Again all structure perimeters reported to be nominal and we'll stand by for third stage shutdown and spacecraft separation. Third stage shutdown confirm and the spacecraft separation confirmed.
Next step will be the deployment of the solar arrays and navigational antennas on progress 83. And we just got at view of the arrays deploy. And again, getting reports now from the mission control center. The antennas have deprived. The antennas have deployed.
The progress 83 resupply spacecraft now official listen the preliminary orbit which begins the two-day journey to the international space station to deliver about three tons of cargo. We are now getting the first view from the external camera on the progress 83. This is the first test of telemetry you see on the screen from the progress 38 back to the control center where they begin the work to follow the journey to the international space station. Recapping the milestones from today, liftoff occurred on time at 12:15a. m.
Central time which was 11:15a. m. At the launch site in baikonur. The soyuz . 1 a booster lifted off of the site 31 in baikonur and performed a ser ritz of three nominal bourns to propel into the orbit where it is now.
Progress 83 is officially on the two-day 34-orbit journey to the space station where it will dock the module on the aft or back end of the station's, saturday february11th at 2:49a. m. Central time. 3:49a. m.
Eastern time and we'll have live coverage of the rendezvous and docking starting at 2:00 a. m. Central time and 3:00 a. m. Eastern time.
Progress 83 will stay docked to the station for the remainder of the year. With progress 83 safely on the way to the international space station and wrap up our coverage for today this is mission
