One memorandum dated April 26, 1945, three pages included. Included is a description of the fleet post office.

This is part of a collection of loose documents and items, including photographs, mounted in a scrapbook. The set records the World War II postal work of Lt. George C. Myers Sr., when he was one of the US Naval officers operating the Fleet Post Office (FPO) in Sasebo, Japan, at the close of World War II. The documents relate to the work involved in processing mail for the US military and Myers’ employment with the Post Office Department; and, the photographs provide visual records of postal operations, volume of mail, and work of the naval postal clerks. The materials related to Myers’ wartime service date from the time of his commissioning to his return home.

George C. Myers, assistant postmaster of Laurel, Mississippi, received a release from the Post Office Department’s Chief Inspector J. M. Donaldson on August 22, 1944, to accept an assignment of postal duties under an officer’s commission with the United States Naval Reserves. Lt. Myers served in the Pacific as officer-in-charge of a Fleet Post Office.
