World TB Day is marked every year on March 24, to raise awareness of tuberculosis (TB) and of what it takes to find, treat and prevent this devastating disease. CDC's note for 2020:
In the United States
- 8,920 TB cases were provisionally reported in 2019 — an incidence of 2.7 per 100,000 people.
- That was 1.1% fewer than the 9,021 cases of 2018, and the lowest number since reporting began in 1953.
- Diagnosing and treating latent TB infection more widely remains essential to eliminating TB in the country.

TB preventive treatment has been shown to reduce illness and death among people with HIV, but it has progressed less among children under 5. Putting effective strategies, TPT among them, fully into practice is crucial to reaching global targets.
