Hear Her® is a CDC campaign about urgent maternal warning signs —
symptoms during or after pregnancy that need immediate attention.
The shareable graphics exist so that other organisations can carry it: 300×250
and 300×600 buttons, downloadable as jpeg or embeddable by code, linking to
the campaign site.
What is at the other end of the link
**Visitors can listen to compelling stories from women about their
experiences during or after pregnancy, and learn the urgent maternal warning
signs.**
The stories come first, before the list of signs, and that ordering is the
campaign.
Maternal mortality in the United States is substantially a problem of
symptoms being raised and not acted on — a woman saying something is wrong and
being told it is normal. A poster listing warning signs addresses the woman,
who frequently already knew.
Hear Her addresses everyone else. The name is an instruction, and the
recordings are the evidence for it: women describing, in their own words, the
moment they were not believed.
Why the graphics matter
A campaign of this kind depends on reaching people where they already are —
an obstetric practice's website, a hospital blog, a community organisation's
social feed. Supplying ready-made buttons with embed code removes the last
obstacle between an organisation agreeing with the message and actually
carrying it.
