Doug Denk, National Park Service Engineer of the Year. NPS.

Doug Denk, a project manager at the NPS Denver Service Center (DSC), was selected as the National Park Service Engineer of the Year, to be recognized at the 2023 National Society of Professional Engineers awards ceremony on February 24.

His career

  • Start: he joined the NPS in 1997 on the road crew for the parks of the Southeast Utah Group.
  • DSC: he later returned to the NPS, joining the DSC in 2007, where he has made sure sound engineering principles and practices go into every project he manages.
  • Specialty: leading large, multidisciplinary teams on historic renovation, ecological restoration and infrastructure projects that must protect sensitive resources while solving complex engineering problems — analyzing data, engaging teams, and charting a strategic path.

"I am passionate about our public lands," Denk said, adding that he is grateful to the teams who share that passion.
