Your hip is where your femur (thigh bone) meets your pelvis (hip bone). It's a ball-and-socket joint: a ball at the end of the femur fits into a socket in the pelvis. That design makes the hip very stable and gives it a wide range of motion — a healthy hip takes great force to injure.
Injuries
Sports, running, overuse or falls can sometimes cause:
- strains;
- bursitis;
- dislocations;
- fractures (broken bones).
Diseases and disorders

Treatment
Depending on the problem, treatment may include rest, medicines, physical therapy or surgery, including hip replacement.
