The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) develops, funds, and hosts training courses focused on preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs). These courses can help public health professionals and health care providers learn more about preventing STIs. Use these resources to find the right course for you.

CDC TRAIN courses

CDC TRAIN is a free service providing access to more than 1,000 courses. Courses were developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) programs, grantees, and other funded partners.

Spotlight training plans for disease intervention skills

Disease intervention Fundamentals Training Plan (Course ID 4401): This training plan focuses on fundamental disease intervention skills. This course is for new disease intervention specialists (DIS) and/or those conducting partner services activities. The plan currently consists of 29 online modules. We encourage you to check back periodically as we activate more courses.

Disease Intervention Training Plan with Outbreak Response (Course ID 5110): This training plan includes the fundamental disease intervention skills from the Disease Intervention Fundamental Training Plan (above). It also offers additional modules specific to outbreak response.

National Network of STD Clinical Prevention Training Centers

The National Network of STD Clinical Prevention Training Centers (PTCs) is a group of regional centers funded by CDC. It was created in partnership with health departments and universities. The PTCs are dedicated to increasing the knowledge and skills of health professionals in the areas of sexual and reproductive health. The National Network provides health professionals with a range of state-of-the-art educational opportunities, including experiential learning with an emphasis on prevention.

The STD Clinical Prevention Training Center provides regional coverage areas and contact information for each PTC. View the PTC website for upcoming courses and trainings.

National STD Curriculum

The National STD Curriculum is a free educational website from the University of Washington STD Prevention Training Center. This project is funded by the CDC. This online modular learning experience addresses epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, management, and prevention of STIs. It is continually updated and integrates the most recent STI Treatment Guidelines.

Free continuing education (CE) credit is available. Free continuing medical education credit and continuing nursing education/CE contact hours are offered throughout this site. Pharmacology CE is also available for advanced practice nurses for many activities.
