**More than 2 in 5 American adults have prediabetes — over 115 million people.
8 in 10 of them do not know.**
The Do I Have Prediabetes? campaign, run by the CDC and the Ad Council, is
built on a single research finding: **once people are aware they have
prediabetes, they are more likely to make the long-term lifestyle changes**
— eating better, managing weight, being active — that prevent or delay type 2
diabetes.
That makes awareness itself the intervention, not a prelude to one.
The campaign's actual argument
The current phase is called "Undo it."
The public service announcements use relatable scenarios to make one point:
some things in life cannot be undone, and prediabetes often can. Not
managed, not slowed — reversed.
That is a genuinely different proposition from most health messaging, which
asks people to accept a permanent constraint in exchange for a reduced risk.
Here the offer is that the condition can go away, and it is accurate.
What it asks you to do
Take the 1-minute prediabetes risk test — at DoIHavePrediabetes.org,
or PodriaTenerPrediabetes.org in Spanish.
One minute is the entire ask, and it is chosen deliberately. Against 8 in 10
people being unaware, the binding constraint is not willingness to change but
never having had a reason to suspect anything.
From there the site links to lifestyle changes and to the **National Diabetes
Prevention Program**, which is where knowing turns into doing.
