The program
CDC's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) provides breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services to women who have low incomes and are uninsured or underinsured.
Are you eligible?
You may qualify for free or low-cost screening if:
- Insurance: you have none, or yours doesn't cover screening exams;
- Income: your yearly income is at or below 250% of the federal poverty level;
- Age: you are 40 to 64 for breast cancer screening, or 21 to 64 for cervical cancer screening. Some younger or older women may also qualify.
Find a program near you
The program is run through award recipients in each state, territory and some tribes. On CDC's program page, choose yours to see:
- who to contact to find out whether you qualify and where to get screened;
- a five-year summary of the screening it has provided.
About the summaries
- They cover services paid for directly by the NBCCEDP, as reported to CDC in its Minimum Data Elements.
- Privacy: data are not shown for recipients that served fewer than 200 women, or where a group has fewer than 16.
- They break results down by race and ethnicity and age group. Percentages may not add to 100% because of rounding, and 0.0% means less than 0.05%.
