Sostegno

The paranasal sinuses are small hollow spaces around the nose, lined with cells that make mucus to keep the nose from drying out. The nasal cavity is the passage just behind the nose, through which air flows on its way to the throat.

Cancer of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is rare.

Who is at greater risk

  • men over 40
  • people exposed to certain chemicals at work
  • people infected with HPV
  • smokers

Signs

There may be no symptoms at first. Later ones can resemble those of an infection.

Diagnosis and treatment

Doctors diagnose it with imaging tests, lighted tube-like instruments that look inside the nose, and biopsies. Treatments include surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
