High on one of Cincinnati's most prominent hilltops stands the **two-storey
Greek Revival house** where William Howard Taft was born and grew up.
What the site is actually about is not the presidency. It is **the environment
that shaped Taft's character and philosophy** — and the attributes the Taft
family had in common: **hard work, a good education, and an interest in civic
duty**. Those are what made the Tafts outstanding leaders over successive
generations, not one of them alone.
A presidential birthplace usually explains a career backwards. This one
explains a household.
Getting there
From I-71 north: take Exit 2 (Reading Road and Eden Park Drive). Stay
in the right lane, turn left at the first stoplight onto **Dorchester
Avenue**, and go to the top of the hill. Turn right on Auburn Avenue and
go 1½ blocks. The park is on the right.
From I-71 south: take Exit 3 (Taft Road). Follow Taft Road westbound
0.75 mile to Auburn Avenue, turn left and go 0.5 mile. The park is on the
left.
