

A third edition of Memoir and Poems of Phillis Wheatley, a Native African and a Slave. Also, Poems by a Slave published by Isaac Knapp in Boston, Massachusetts. Frontispiece portrait of Phillis Wheatley, attributed to Scipio Moorhead, depicts her in profile facing proper right seated at a desk holding a quill to paper in her right hand. Her left hand is raised to her face in thought. Attached interleaf between the frontispiece portrait and the title page. Bookplate is of Michael Zinman. Recto of flyleaf page is signed in black ink: Ellen M. [illegible]-ight / 1848. The back pastedown sheet is signed in dark ink: [My Friend. / To Rev: S. A. Brown From C. P. Ke-[illegible] / 6/10/37]. Pages 117 through 155 contain the poems of George Moses Horton. Book is in good condition, with cloth binding showing spots of discoloration on the covers. Interior pages show some foxing and yellowing around the edges. 155 numbered pages.
