Salt Lake City was both a way station and a destination for pioneers, and the history of three national historic trails meets there: the Mormon Pioneer, the Pony Express and the California trails. This National Park Service itinerary begins at This Is The Place Heritage Park, which gives an overview of all three at one stop, then becomes a walking tour of downtown focused on the Mormon Pioneer Trail.

The stops

  1. This Is The Place Heritage Park
  2. Emigration Square
  3. Pony Express Station Monument
  4. Brigham Young Monument
  5. Beehive House and Lion House
  6. Eagle Gate
  7. Brigham Young Cemetery
  8. Brigham Young Historic Park
  9. Church History Museum
  10. Deuel Pioneer Log Cabin
  11. Temple Square
  12. Pioneer Memorial Museum
  13. Ensign Peak Memorial Garden and Ensign Peak Nature Park

Trip-planning information and more itineraries for the trails are in the NPS mobile app and on the trails' websites.
