ARCSIX is the Arctic Radiation Cloud Aerosol Surface Interaction Experiment. The overarching goal of ARCSIX is to measure sea ice melt in the Arctic by gathering data about surface properties, clouds, aerosol particles, and precipitation. It will help NASA scientists better understand cloud effects on the Earth’s radiation budget. The measurements will be used to improve space-based monitoring of Arctic sea ice and contribute to finding the specific causes of the increased melts since they directly affect the entire Earth system. This video highlights the flights and data gathering of atmospheric science teams from NASA's Langley Research Center and NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in collaboration with partners. Flight originated out of Pituffik Space Base in Northern Greenland.

What is said in the film

Let's step in there. And sure enough to you, if it's actually switched in on GFS was all, cloudy in the northern part of the blue area and then cloudy again in the Baffin Bay. There's a lot of uncertainty in the clouds over there over the last few days. Pretty clear. Better conditions for showing this very little shear.

Yeah, yeah. And there's very little, dispersion as well. Yeah. So, yeah, apparently according to Motus article, that that one cloud we got the other day looks like the line is roughly between 20 and 40. Article that.

Who used to work who now works at headquarters administration over under our 15. I'm gonna take that over about 15 of this thing. Oh, I'll take the over. I know I don't want it to be. I really want it to be 30 minutes.

I. Was running around. Come in for work. Oh, like, what? Did they bring you down there?

during integration. and then I help with the shipping here. So the cargo load obviously won't get very low. Pass or be on guard. It depends on where.

I don't have any idea what to other looks like. Oh, no. Yeah. And the way it's been drawn. Yeah, I know what the base is.

Yeah, I know, and that's a little bit tricky based on what? Weather. So we're going to climb out. thinking the flight plan might have you going higher than probably could feasibly go. So we go out how?

You wanted to get as high. As high as we will get up there. But I have to get up there in that first leg. Yeah. So just as high as you can get.

That makes sense. On the climb out of here and then spiral down. It doesn't have to be the whole way. I think 14,000, which is in there, you know, that's fine. Oh, this is high.

You can get by without. The white areas here are the sea ice extent in each September since 1979. That red line that you see is the aerial extent. So the average over all of that and what we see here and this is in September. And the reason why we look at September is because that's the time of year where we have the minimum sea ice.

And what you can see here is this red line is going down, right. That that slope is roughly about 13% per decade, or about, 4,000,000km². To put that in perspective. That is the land area, Alaska, Texas and Montana combined. Go through this list just to let you know there's a bunch of them up and where we have the oldest sea ice in the entire Arctic, you know, older than four years, five years old is living right here.

So we can find it north. And we've observed it a lot over the last two weeks, as Sebastian mentioned. Next slide.
