Why clinicians matter

Talking with patients about quitting tobacco, and tracking their progress, shows them you are on their side. If you're not sure how to start the conversation, these evidence-based training programs help:

Six short CDC videos

Counseling and medication can help your patients quit. Helping patients quit is one of the most important things you can do for their health.

Advise your patients to quit. Quitting helps at any age, however long someone has smoked.

Tobacco dependence is treatable — and you can play a critical role.

Quitlines support your patients. When patients call a quitline, trained counselors help them make a quit plan, discuss medications and connect them to other free help. Refer patients to their state quitline through 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

Quitlines can help your patients quit — especially combined with your support.

Help your pregnant patients quit — for their health and their baby's.

CDC videos. Audio-described versions are on CDC's page.
