Intro
Not every anime needs a world-ending arc or 400+ episodes. These are the slow, reflective, sometimes funny ones that feel like late-night conversations with yourself. If you just want to have a cozy watch, I believe these ten animes are pretty underrated and enjoyable to watch. Here are 10 titles with their short descriptions, so that you can understand whether you would like it or not!
Ranking
1. Barakamon - Crunchyroll
After punching a critic, a calligrapher is sent to a remote island to cool off. What happens instead is quiet growth through community, especially through a wild little girl who becomes his accidental teacher. It’s funny, healing, and honest about what it means to lose confidence in your craft - and slowly find your way back.
2.Hanasaku Iroha - Crunchyroll
A teenage girl is suddenly sent to live and work at her grandmother’s traditional inn after her mom basically disappears. At first, it feels like just another coming-of-age setup, but it slowly unfolds into something deeper - about work, self-worth, generational expectations, and learning who you are through discomfort.
3. Silver Spoon - AniWatch
A city kid enrolls in an agricultural high school thinking it’ll be easy. It’s not. He ends up learning about real-world responsibility, food production, hard labor — and himself. It’s written by the same author as Fullmetal Alchemist, but hits completely different. This is one of those rare school animes that actually teaches you something useful.
4. Natsume’s Book of Friends - Crunchyroll
A teenage boy sees spirits and inherits a book binding them — but instead of fighting them, he releases them. The stories are small, intimate, and beautifully human. One of the most peaceful series I’ve seen. Perfect for quiet nights or when you’re feeling distant from yourself. Gives Ghibli world feeling.
5. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu - Crunchyroll
A drama about traditional Japanese storytelling (rakugo) that ends up being about generational pain, legacy, and finding your voice through performance. It’s layered, slow, and absolutely worth it. Honestly feels more like literature than anime. Emotionally heavy but masterfully done.
6. 3-gatsu no Lion (March Comes in Like a Lion) - Crunchyroll
A teenage shogi player dealing with grief, pressure, and depression slowly finds comfort in an unexpected family and rebuilds his identity. The pacing is poetic, the art shifts with mood, and it never pretends healing is linear. If you’ve ever felt stuck and needed a reason to keep going, this is it.
7. Hyouka - Crunchyroll
A student with no energy for anything gets pulled into solving small school mysteries by a girl who literally cannot resist saying 'I’m curious.' It’s not about the mystery - it’s about observation, noticing beauty, and asking better questions. Visually stunning, chill and cozy anime.
8. Kino’s Journey - Crunchyroll
A traveler and a talking motorcycle visit different countries, each with strange rules or social systems. Sounds weird, but each episode is basically a philosophical parable. You don’t binge this - you watch one, sit with it, and come back later.
9. The Great Passage - Prime Video
It’s about making a dictionary. No joke. And it somehow becomes a meditation on words, purpose, and quiet dedication. A slow-burn anime for anyone who loves detail, language, or just doing meaningful work that no one else notices.
10. Sketchbook full color's - Crunchyroll
Barely known even in anime circles, this is a pure slice-of-life about an art club. Nothing major happens - and that’s exactly why it works. It’s light, soft, funny in unexpected ways, and makes you want to sit down and sketch something for no reason, even if you are really bad at it.
