Prediabetes affects more than 2 in 5 American adults, most of whom do not know
they have it. The instinctive response to being told — overhaul everything,
starting Monday — is also the one most likely to be abandoned by March.
"Which changes matter most" concedes that not all of them do. "How to make
them last" concedes that the hard part is not knowing what to do.

The framing throughout is about habits rather than resolutions — the same
distinction the CDC's other diabetes material makes, and for the same reason.
A condition managed over decades is only managed by things that have stopped
requiring a decision.
