BLM Utah Law Enforcement Officers Support Hurricane Relief Efforts

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) law enforcement officers are often asked to respond to natural disasters across the nation. BLM law enforcement has helped in areas severely impacted by Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico and Hurricane Ian in Florida. For the last few weeks, officers from our Canyon Country and Color Country Districts served on a Federal Emergency Management Agency Search and Rescue team. The team assisted with damage evaluation, search and rescue efforts, transportation, security, peacekeeping and identifying hazards.

“It was incredibly humbling to be a part of a detail like this,” said BLM Law Enforcement Ranger Bobby Hunt. “The streets and homes were flooded, displacing so many people. During our time there, we saw and felt what it was like to have no running water, power, air conditioning and other amenities that we may take for granted. It was a privilege to help with the hurricane relief efforts and be part of a mission that is much bigger than ourselves.”
