Lorraine Bay's Flight Crew Logbook, Flight 93

This flight crew logbook, recovered from the wreckage of United Airlines Flight 93, belonged to Lorraine Bay, a veteran cabin crew member with 37 years of service. Lorraine's United coworkers remembered her as a maternal woman who deeply cared for her colleagues.

Although the logbook dates from 1992 to 1996, Bay carried this older logbook on September 11, 2001—perhaps because it contains more than flight information and emergency contacts, but also an address section for friends and family. Bay reportedly sent two greeting cards to two ill coworkers that very morning before her flight. This simple notebook stands as a poignant memorial to one of the seven crew members and 33 passengers who perished when Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, PA—and a humble reminder of the individual lives and personal connections lost amid a national tragedy.
