My Wild Horse Story: Lea and Misti

This is the story of how Misti came into my life.

A good friend of mine is a trainer with the Mustang Heritage Foundation's Trainer Incentive Program and she picked up several horses. One was Misti. I watched videos of her first coming off the trailer at trainer's farm and sessions in the round pen. She seemed to have a calm personality. I watched her progress over a week. The more I watched her the more I fell in love.

I made arrangements to go up and meet her and signed the papers to bring her home right away. Lucky for me, she was a eligible for purchase through the Sales Program, which allows immediate transfer of ownership upon signing the bill of sale. I contacted the BLM on Monday and sent in the paperwork for the bill of sale.

The first time in the arena, she had on only a halter - no lead. She followed me around and we connected right away. It is hard to believe that she was passed up for adoption nine times, as I later found out. I researched her background, thanks to great tracking from the BLM. She and others were captured outside of a herd management area as part of an emergency gather. The average Henneke body score was 3-4 of the horses gathered. I thank God and the BLM for putting her in my life.

She is very easy to catch and loves attention and treats. She is calm and easy going. She is going back to the TIP trainer shortly for a month of saddle training. I look forward to years with this sweet girl.
