NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va. hosted a special preview of its upcoming Open House for members of the media. The Open House preview included stops at four of the facilities that will be open to the public for Open House, as well as an opportunity to talk with Langley researchers, scientists, and engineers about the impact their work is having to inspire a better world.
What is said in the film
What's really, really special about this wind tunnel is it's cryogenic so it can go really, really cold. And it's pressurized. It can go really, really high pressures. What that does is it tricks these really little skilled models into thinking they're really big. This is a one of a kind went when come out there are no other like it.
Building these things takes a credible skill and we here are thinking about how humans will one day live and work on the surface of the moon and Mars has a truss structure to build a tall tower taller. It starts at the bottom. We can also attach on this tower with the solar panels. I mean, and attaching it creates, you know, another area of, you know, the radiation protection that's normal micrometeorite installation and all that stuff. And so what it's capable of doing is taking materials like this aluminum disk.
And in only about 3 minutes, forming it into complex shapes. And so how do you answer any questions for anyone? And so the advantage of this technology, which we're trying to prove out, is that it's extensible and we can we can elaborate and make them bigger without having to fundamentally change what they are. So here is the surface got to 1500 degrees Celsius and it's a nine and a half GS on reentry. And you should have a little gap out here.
So just adjust that up or down until it's an assist in the operation to drive that car into the lit up like a square. Is that an indication of an obstacle? If you go to find a pretty what do you need? So quest is the mission. The quest is the idea of creating a noise limit, not a sound or speed limit for an operation.
That's great. I can get all my clothes. Yeah. What's right? Right.
The actual aircraft has been under design for five years. Yeah. I need to get.
