At Kennedy Space Center, teams are continuing to prepare for the Artemis II mission. This week, the closeout crew practiced sealing Orion’s hatch, and managers conducted a flight readiness review. With maintenance nearly complete, teams remain focused on a potential launch in early April.

Stay tuned for more updates on America’s return to the Moon! The International Space Station has been busy with cargo operations. Over the last two weeks flight controllers used the station’s robotic arm to release two resupply spacecraft — Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus XL and Japan’s HTV-X1. Cygnus is headed for reentry and disposal, while HTV-X1 will stay in orbit to support scientific research. And finally, a new study of NASA’s DART mission confirmed that for the first time, humanity has changed the motion of a celestial body.

The spacecraft struck the asteroid moonlet Dimorphos in 2022, shifting its orbit and slightly changing the path of the larger asteroid, Didymos. This shows how a spacecraft could one day deflect a potentially hazardous asteroid away from Earth — and NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office keeps watch for those objects long before they become a threat.
