Space to Ground: Before the Moon: April 7, 2023

Welcome to space to ground, I’m sandra jones, this week nasa announced the names of the four crew members who will orbit the moon as part of the artemis ii mission, and a soyuz spacecraft moved from one docking port to another onboard the international space station in preparation for upcoming space station traffic. "ladies and gentlemen, your artemis ii crew! " on monday, nasa astronauts reid wiseman, victor glover, and christina koch as well as canadian space agency astronaut jeremy hansen were announced to the world as the crew of artemis ii. These four humans will launch aboard the space launch system rocket and orbit around the moon as part of a 10 day mission putting the orion spacecraft through its paces ahead of a future moon landing mission. The international space station continues to play a key role in future deep space exploration.

In fact, between wiseman, glover, and koch who have all completed long duration missions onboard the orbital outpost, they have a combined 661 days in space. While on board space station, crews work on science and research investigations, learn to live, and work in space, and complete experiments to learn more about how the human body adapts to long periods of time in space. "our mission is 100% science. The science is what kept me motivated up there. Looking down at the earth is incredible, but when you get to talk to the researchers, when we're talking to them real time as we're doing their experiments, and you hear the fascination in their voice...

It really, it kind of lit my fire, it was really great. " this research is critical to the success and safety of a sustained human presence on the moon and journey to mars through the artemis program. A soyuz spacecraft now has a new home aboard the space station following a port relocation on thursday. Expedition 69 crew members frank rubio of nasa, and roscosmos cosmonauts sergey prokopyev and dmitri petelin, boarded the recently arrived soyuz ms-23 spacecraft, undocked from the poisk module on the space-facing side of the complex, and redocked to the prichal module on the earth-facing side of the outpost. This move makes room for the arrival of the uncrewed roscosmos progress 84 cargo spacecraft later this year.
