Welcome to Space to Ground, I'm Nilufar Ramji. This week marks a ceremonial change and a milestone completed. Here's a glimpse of the activities aboard the Space Station. On Tuesday September 26th, the change of command ceremony took place where Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev handed over command of the International Space Station to European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Mogensen. "Sergey, Frank, and Dimitri, you have shown resilience, professionalism and grace in the face of unexpected challenges and significant uncertainty.

It's one thing to launch to space knowing that you're going to be up here for a year. It's a completely different thing for you and your families to find out towards the end of your six-month mission that you're going to be spending an additional 6 months in space. But you took it upon your shoulders and you excelled. " With a new space station commander in place, the Soyuz MS-23 crew began its preparations to bring their record-breaking space flight to a close. As the official record holder for the longest single space flight by an American, NASA astronaut Frank Rubio departed the Space Station and return to our home planet on Wednesday September 27th.

"Undocking confirmed. Frank Rubio, Sergey Prokopyev, and Demitri Petelin have departed the complex that has been their home for over a year. " A little over 3 hours after undocking, the trio landed on the steppe of Kazakhstan. "Touchdown! Touchdown confirmed at 6:17 a.

m. Central Time. Rubio's record ride comes to an end as he, Prokopyev, and Petelin returned to Earth after a 371 day, 157 million mile journey at the International Space Station. " "Hello Frank. You were the doctor on the crew, mate.

How is on in the space, how is your mate? " "Fantastic! Yeah, everybody did really well. " "You look very well, very well" "Thank you. It's good to be home.

" Rubio who launched on September 21st 2022 became the new American record holder on September 11th of this year surpassing the 355 day record held by NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei. So happy to have you back home, Frank!
