Sports can be a great way to get in shape or stay in shape, and having a specific goal is a strong motivator.
Training
Physically, you need strength and endurance, but how you train depends on your sport — you would not train for pole vaulting the same way as for swimming.
Cross training simply means including a variety of fitness activities in your programme. Research shows that cross training builds stronger bones.
Listen to your body
- If you often feel exhausted or are in pain, you may be overdoing it — and that can lead to injuries.
- Use your body and your equipment safely.
Food and water
What you eat and drink matters too. Water is the most important nutrient for active people: drink it before, during and after workouts.
