Winter Weather Woes

The winter solstice is upon us which not only means today is the shortest day and longest night of the year, but also the first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.  As frigid temperatures and snow become more likely with each passing day, now is a good time to make winter safety a priority.

Weather conditions can be unpredictable during the winter months. This poster from the National Institutes of Health Division of Safety reminds us to watch our step when walking on ice-covered streets to avoid slipping and falling.  Although the poster is historical, the message remains relevant today, and is also conveyed in the Extreme Cold Prevention Guide by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Remember, the winter doesn’t have to be a time for illness or injury. By taking a few precautions you can be sure to have a safe and healthy holiday season.
