A needs assessment should be conducted to determine what resources and steps are needed. Assess what your program goals and performance objectives are, and what steps you need to take to complete your goals.

Resource Management

Resources are needed to support all stages of preparedness and recovery, including prevention/deterrence, mitigation, emergency response, business continuity, crisis communications and disaster recovery. There are many resources needed to support businesses’ preparedness programs. These resources involve people, supplies, facilities, equipment and information.

Incident Management

Maintaining an incident management system is especially crucial for businesses that work with and have organized emergency response teams, and that work with local public emergency services. The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was established by FEMA and includes the Incident Command System (ICS). Businesses can use these platforms to manage disruptions of business operations, as well as public information and crisis communications.
