Having a regular place to go when you're sick, or need health advice, is one of the basics of health care. Between 2008 and 2018, more Hispanic adults aged 18–64 in the United States gained one — yet they were still the least likely of any group shown to have it.

  • Hispanic adults gained the most but remained the least likely to have a usual place for care.
  • Non-Hispanic White adults were the most likely in both years.
  • Non-Hispanic Black adults fell in between.

How it was measured

The figures come from household interviews with a sample of the civilian, noninstitutionalized U.S. population in the National Health Interview Survey's Sample Adult component. Respondents were asked, "Is there a place that you usually go to when you are sick or need advice about your health?" Anyone whose usual place was the emergency room was counted as not having a usual place of care.

The race categories are for non-Hispanic respondents who chose a single racial group; Hispanic adults may be of any race or combination of races. Only selected groups are shown, and the total covers all adults aged 18–64.
