EXECUTIVE MANSION,

August 10, 1881.

12.30 P. M.

The President is getting through the day in a very satisfactory manner. He has asked for and taken a small quantity of solid food in addition to the liquid nourishment allowed.  At the morning dressing the discharge of pus through the new opening was more free than at any previous time; its character was good, and the wound looks well.  His temperature and respiration continue within the normal range, through the debility following the operation is still shown by frequency of the pulse.  At present his pulse is 100; temperature, 98.6°; respiration, 19.
