Equilibrium constant used in chemistry, biochemistry, and pharmacology. This constant describes the ability for a large complex to come apart — the larger the constant, the less likely the complex will stay together; the smaller the constant, the more likely the complex will stay together.

In acid and base studies, Ka is used to describe the dissociation of hydrogen from an acid.

H A ⇌ H + A

Where HA is the acid (most of the time it is used to represent weak acids), H is the hydronium ion (H+), and A is the conjugate base. The equilibrium constant equation for this reaction would be:

{K}_{a} = \frac{[ H ] [ A ]}{[ H A ]}

In the study of proteins, Kd is used to describe the interactions between either protein to protein, protein to ligand, and protein to DNA. The binding propensity can be described with the formula and the equation below:

C ⇌ S + E

where C is the complex, S is the substrate and E is the particular protein or material.
This formula can be described with an equilibrium equation:

{K}_{d} = \frac{[ S ] [ E ]}{[ C ]}

The inverse of the dissociation constant is the affinity constant.

This page was imported from Wikibooks. From “Structural Biochemistry” on Wikibooks, by its contributors, under CC BY-SA 4.0. Changed here: set as a page; navigation and edit links left out; each image under its own licence, credited in its caption.

Nobody has written it yet — it is the source material at a new address, which is why search engines are asked to skip it and why no one earns from it. It is up for grabs: take it on, and it is yours to rewrite and to earn from.

The recommended targets are real, but the largest health gain is between doing nothing and doing a little. That is the part worth knowing if you are starting from nothing.

Sleep is not one state but a cycle through several, each doing different work. Most sleep disorders are a failure to complete that cycle rather than a shortage of hours.
