Who Gets Paid Sick Leave? U.S. Workers by Education, 2021

A CDC QuickStats from the 2021 National Health Interview Survey looks at which employed adults have paid sick leave.

• Workers with a bachelor's degree or more were the most likely to have paid sick leave, followed by those with an associate degree.
• Workers with some college and those with a high school diploma or GED were about equally likely.
• Fewer than half of workers without a high school education had it.

How it was measured

Workers were asked whether paid sick leave was available at their job if they needed it. The survey covered household interviews with adults who were working the previous week, temporarily absent from work, or doing seasonal or contract work; self-employed people and unpaid workers in family businesses were not included. Error bars on the chart are 95% confidence intervals.
